Television & News Media
Harnessing the power of the media to save lives
Parent Collective has been at the forefront of raising awareness about the devastating consequences of social media and fentanyl, and advocating for greater accountability from tech giants.
Through an extensive outreach campaign, the organization has produced over 150 television segments and news articles. By shedding light on these dangers and demanding action from those responsible, the Parent Collective aims to empower parents and communities to protect their children and prevent further tragedies.
Victims of social media harm are more than a statistic. Every family has a unique story that has the power to save lives. These stories are a large part of media coverage on these important issues. Parent Collective is helping bookers, reporters and producers to find these affected families and offer experts on these topics, such as the Organization for Social Media Safety. Our work saves lives by providing essential information and empowering individuals to make informed choices.
Legislative Reform
Advocating through Congress, State legislature, and the Courts
The extent of harm that social media is inflicting upon children is ongoing, pervasive and severe. Despite raising awareness of these harms over recent years and various legislative efforts, the risk to our children continues to escalate. Third party safety software is an existing proven solution to rapidly increase safety for young adult social media users. However, most of the largest social media companies–such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat–do not allow this software to integrate with their platforms.
We are fighting to pass SB 1444 in the California state legislature, known as the Let Parents Choose Protection Act of 2024 — or Sammy’s Law. The bill would require all major social media platforms to allow integration with third-party monitoring software, which can notify parents when dangers—such as drug and firearm sales, bullying or suicidal thoughts—appear on their children’s accounts.
Outdoor Advertising
A silent tribute and call to action
In a fight fueled by grief and love, Parent Collective has joined forces with Rachel’s Angels and Lamar Advertising to raise a national alarm. Across the country, powerful billboards stand as silent tributes – each one featuring the faces of loved ones lost to fentanyl poisoning. These are not just images; they are the stories of shattered families, vibrant lives cut tragically short.
These billboards are more than warnings; they are a clarion call. They urge us to confront the devastating fentanyl crisis head-on. By amplifying awareness, we can empower communities to to take action to protect those who are most vulnerable.
But the fight doesn’t end there. The billboards also promote social media safety through Sammy’s Law (Sammy’s Law.org). In the age of digital influence, educating ourselves and our children about online safety is crucial.
Together, through awareness and action, we can honor the memory of these lost angels and protect countless others.
Support for Survivors
Legal representation
Parent Collective supports the families of victims by providing legal counsel, on a pro bono basis, to families who have lost a child through online harm or fentanyl poisoning to further education on the crises.
Grief healing scholarships
Parent Collective is committed to helping parents heal from the pain of child loss. Our Grief Healing Collective plans and organizes numerous healing and community meet-ups, retreats and events every year, each one offering scholarships as possible to parents without the means. Each of these life-changing evens is organized and led by Dr. Laura Berman, founder of Parent Collective and therapist of 30 years.
We understand the impossible toll the death of a child can have on a family. Parent Collective is committed to helping parents heal, and supporting them in not only going through terrible loss, but growing through it, becoming more self-actualized and empowered versions of themselves.
